Local business group leader Frank Carbon expressed alarm over the dumping of human bodies and mutilated body parts in Bacolod City, stressing that “this is very bad for business”.
Carbon, who is the chief executive officer of the Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MBCCI), said “this will deter investors from outside of the city and province to come in and do business”.
Despite orders of Mayor Alfredo Benitez for the police to do something about it, the Bacolod City Police Office is still groping in the dark as to the identities of the killers and the motive behind the dumping of corpses and dismembered body parts in Bacolod in recent months.
On April 30 and May 2, three decomposing human bodies were discovered in barangays Felisa and Cabug in Bacolod. In previous months, mutilated body parts were also left behind in different areas of the highly-urbanized city.
“They are sending a very strong signal…some kind of a vigilante group,” Carbon said in a statement.
The creation of a Special Investigation Task Group has already been recommended by the BCPO to Police Regional Office 6 to solve such incidents.
The BCPO maintains that Bacolod remains generally peaceful, as their crime statistics showed that the 8 Focus Crime incidents are very low, aside from the dumping of bodies and body parts.
The 8 Focus Crimes include murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, theft, robbery, carnapping, and motorcycle theft.
Carbon said “peace and order is one of the major criteria we consider when investing”.
“We hope our government, or police force don’t consider these incidents as isolated cases,” he added./GB
