More employment and career development opportunities are coming to Bacolod City and neighboring areas with the establishment of a two-storey S&R shopping warehouse at Bredco Port.
Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Benitez and Anthony Sy, president of the S&R Membership Shopping, Friday signed the contract of lease for the 200 square-meter property of the city near SM Bacolod, after the Sangguniang Panlungsod Thursday gave the mayor the authority to sign the lease deal.
Also signed was the lease contract between Sy and So Ha Uy, vice president of Starcki Venture Corporation and Morning Glory Corp.
Uy told the Negros NOW Daily that the lease will involve about 13,000-square-meter lot they owned adjacent to the city’s property.
Benitez told Sy “the timing is good since Bacolod is poised for a very strong comeback economically.”
“The economic recovery we have planned for the city is now kicking in, and will soon materialize and help every Bacolodnon recover from the pandemic,” the mayor said as he thanked the warehouse club for investing in the city.
Sy said that this partnership with the city government is “an opportunity to grow and be part of the catalyst to jumpstart and further accelerate the development of Bacolod City.”
“We intend to be a reliable partner for world-class quality products at the lowest possible price, alongside being a catalyst to the people of Bacolod as we provide employment and career development opportunities,” the businessman said.
Sy said their shopping warehouse will train and employ about 300 personnel, aside from the ancillary and construction workers.
“We are very excited to finally be able to serve our S&R members in Bacolod, in their very own City of Smiles. It is timely and fortunate for us to be welcomed by Mayor Benitez himself, to announce the signing of the opening of S&R Bacolod,” he added.
“With your leadership, we are happy that we are able to get back to our pre-pandemic traditions starting with the celebration of the MassKara Festival,” he told Benitez. “At S&R, we are equally excited to start new traditions in Bacolod, as we bring a world-class membership shopping experience here for families and institutions to enjoy.”/CGC
