A 12-year-old girl died and three of her relatives were injured when the canter mini-bus that they were riding experienced a break failure and fell into a road ditch in Barangay Rizal, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental Oct. 24.
The fatality was identified as Rudilyn Segurado, while injured were Judy-ann Montesino, 18, Jonarie Sumiga, 39, and John Jucher Segurado, 26, all of Sitio Brillantes in the barangay.
They were on their way to attend the burial of a family member, also in San Carlos City, the police said.
Initial traffic investigation of the San Carlos City Police showed that Rudilyn was standing near the door of the mini-bus when the accident occurred. She succumbed to severe injuries sustained before the arrival of a rescue team. Her parents and other relatives were also in the vehicle.
Those injured were brought to the San Carlos City Hospital for treatment.
Minibus driver Juditho Locsin, 34, of Villarante, Barangay 1 in San Carlos City, also underwent medical check-up in the hospital before he was brought to the custodial facility of the police station. The vehicle is now under the custody of the investigator on case. — MML
