8 focus crimes decrease in Neg. Occ.

The eight focus crimes in Negros Occidental reduced by 101 incidents  last year, compared to 2022, with murder cases topping the crimes committed, according to the year-end report of the Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office.

These crimes include murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, theft, robbery, car theft and motorcycle theft.

NOCPPO logged  926 incidents last year from 1,027 incidents in 2022.

Murder was the highest  at 276, followed by homicide — 197;  physical injuries –- 194; theft –- 142;  robbery  — 54;  rape –- 46;  carnapping — 16, and one incident of motorcycle theft.

Homicide cases went up by 39 incidents last year, the report added.

Vehicular accidents decreased by 110 incidents, which was 1,311 in 2022, compared to 1,221 incidents last year, the NOCPPO report further showed.

The increase in non-index crimes, or implementation of special laws, from 2,122 in 2022, to 2,199 last year, was attributed by NOCPPO to its intensified police initiated operations. | GB
