Three men, who claimed to be New People’s Army (NPA) rebels, shot to death a 74-year-old woman in Barangay Tapi, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental on Wednesday, Feb. 4.
Initial police investigation showed the unidentified assailants went to the house of the victim in Purok Halimbawa.
Failing to locate her, they asked her husband to help look for her and they saw her in another house.
After introducing themselves as NPA members, they shot the victim in the head, without any reason at all.
The victim’s house was reportedly used by seven rebels who died in an encounter with Philippine Army soldiers in April last year.
The 15th Infantry Battalion strongly condemned the killing of the elderly woman.
In a statement, Lt. Col. Roberto Maduli, 15IB commander, said they are closely coordinating with the Philippine National Police to ensure a fair, objective, and comprehensive investigation on the killing of an innocent civilian. | GB
