More than 7,000 students in three local government units in the Fifth District of Negros Occidental availed of education financial assistance on Sept. 27.
The recipients, who received P3,000 each, were residents of Himamaylan City, Binalbagan and Hinigaran.
The release of the assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development, which was facilitated by Uswag Ilonggo partylist Rep. Jojo Ang and Fifth District Rep. Emilio Bernardino Yulo III, was held at the Himamaylan City gym, in the presence of Mayor Rogelio Raymund Tongson and Vice Mayor Justin Gatuslao.
In a press briefing, Yulo said that he is investing much in education by allocating about P80 million annually for 10,000 scholars in the Fifth District.
The latest release was the fifth leg for deserving students this year, he added.
Yulo said that while it is good to have barangay halls and covered courts for the people’s convenience, it is more fulfilling for him that somebody is thanking him for the educational assistance that helped family members graduate from college.
“I think it is a life changing experience for them,” he said.
Aside from financial assistance, Yulo also extends year book and board examination assistance, among others. | GB
