Seven former New People’s Army (NPA) rebels availed of financial assistance under the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) during the turn-over rites held at Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental on April 11.

They surrendered to the Philippine Army’s 62nd Infantry Battalion (IB) and the Philippine National Police in December last year.

1Lt. Mary Liza Joy de Guzman, 62IB civil-military operations chief, said each of the seven former rebels received P10,000 each.

In a statement, Guihulngan City Mayor Filomeno Reyes told the former rebels that “the NPA are not your comrades, you are the victims of their wrong ideology.”

He assured them that his administration will always extend help to them.

Many jobs and opportunities are waiting for you here in Guihulngan City, Reyes said.

De Guzman said that the 62IB leadership will continue its partnership and support to the government’s initiatives for the former rebels. | GB
