7 Army soldiers get medals for bravery

Two officers and five enlisted personnel of the Philippine Army’s 62nd Infantry Battalion were conferred  the Military Merit Medals in recognition of their bravery during the awarding rites held at Camp Leon Kilat in Tanjay City, Negros Oriental on Aug. 27.

Maj. Gen. Michael Samson, commander of 3rd Infantry Division, led the awarding of medals to the awardees who were recognized for their exemplary performance during the armed encounter with remnants of the dismantled New People’s Army Central Negros 1 in Barangay Humay-Humay, Guihulngan City.

The armed engagement led to the death of a rebel and the recovery of two high-powered firearms.

Samson congratulated the awardees and the entire 302nd Infantry Brigade for a job well done.

“This is a team effort where everyone contributed to the success of the operation. We must also not forget the efforts of the people who supported the operating troops in accomplishing their mission,” he added. | GB
