The town of Murcia hosted this year’s 6th Halad kay Kang-laon Festival Aug. 9-11, on the theme “Sari-buhay sang Kanlaon, Bugal guid naton”.
The festival showcased the products and talents of local government units within the Mount Kanlaon Natural Park, including the towns of Murcia and La Castella, and the cities of Bago, La Carlota, and San Carlos in Negros Occidental, and Canlaon City in Negros Oriental.
The festival street dances of the LGUs, like La Carlota City’s Pasalamat, La Castellana’s Bailes de Luces, San Carlos’ Pintaflores, Bago’s Babaylan, Canlaon’s Pasayaw, and Murcia’s Tinabuay were performed as one highlight of the three-day event.
Other winners are, for trade fair – LGU Canlaon City (1st), Bago City (2nd), and La Carlota City (3rd); canvas painting – Murcia (1st), La Carlota City (2nd), and San Carlos City (3rd); body painting – La Carlota City (1st), Murcia (2nd), and San Carlos City (3rd);
Photo contest – San Carlos (1st), Murcia (2nd), and La Castellana (3rd), Quiz Bowl – San Carlos (1st), and Canlaon City (2nd).
The festival culminated at the Murcia public plaza where Mayor Gerry Rojas turned over the hosting duties for the 7th Halad kay Kang-laon, to La Carlota City Mayor Rex Jalando-on. | Mayor Gerry Rojas, MKNP photos
