The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has reported another weak ash emission from the summit crater of Kanlaon Volcano yesterday morning.
Grayish plumes were reported rising about 500 meters above the crater before drifting southwest.
Prior to its ash emission at 8:23 a.m., Phivolcs logged 65 volcanic quakes at the Kanlaon Volcano.
Despite the continuing restiveness, Alert Level 2 remains in effect, meaning the volcano is still under a moderate level of unrest.
Under this alert status, Phivolcs said there is a possibility of sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions, and entry into the four-kilometer permanent danger zone is strictly prohibited due to the risk of explosive activity.
Residents near the volcano and local government units were urged to remain vigilant.
On Sept. 10, a weak ash emission was also recorded at the summit crater, producing grayish plumes that rose about 600 meters above the crater, Phivolcs records showed. | GB
