Despite the heightened registration campaign, the number of persons who applied for voter registration with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Negros Occidental is still “below target”.

Provincial Elections Supervisor Ian Lee Ananoria said on Friday (April 12) that they are targeting to increase voter registration in the second and third quarters of the year.

The Comelec in Negros Occidental is targeting to register 200,000 new voters in preparation for the May 2025 mid-term elections.

Of those who applied for voter registration, a total of 14,714 were registered in highly-urbanized Bacolod City.

The voter registration for the 2025 national and local elections will end on Sept. 30.

In the past several months, satellite registration in the different local government units were conducted by election offices, which aimed at further increasing the number of registered voters.

The Election Registration Board in Negros Occidental is expected to convene on Monday, April 15, to act on the application of new voters, and request for transfer.

Voters who did not vote in the last two elections are expected to be delisted by the Comelec. | GB
