Some 52 individuals were arrested by the police in Negros Occidental, including the highly-urbanized Bacolod City, for violation of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban since the election period started on Aug. 28.

The violators include 33 apprehended by the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) and 19, by the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO).

As of Oct. 27, the NOCPPO also logged the most number of arrested violators in Western Visayas, a report of the Police Regional Office (PRO)-6 showed.

The 115 violators nabbed across the region comprise 109 civilians, three security guards, two from other law enforcement agencies, and one from the Philippine National Police.

The PRO-6 also confiscated 80 assorted guns, 48 bladed weapons, 347 ammunition and two explosives.

In a statement, PBrig. Gen. Sidney Villaflor, PRO-6 director, lauded the accomplishments of various police units in the strict implementation of the Comelec gun ban from the day it was implemented.

The gun ban period will end on Nov. 29.

Villaflor said he is hoping that the elections on Oct. 30 will be peaceful and orderly. | GB
