Five best performing sanitary inspectors and 24 zero open defecation (ZOD)–declared barangays from cities and towns in Negros Occidental received cash incentives during the Provincial Health Board meeting at the Provincial Capitol in Bacolod March 19.
Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson led the awarding of cash incentives, worth P10,000 each, to LGU sanitary inspectors Rose Marie Completo of Kabankalan City, Rowena Macay of Isabela, Frederick Davy Susana of Hinobaan, Jenebabes Calbonera of Pontevedra, and Ma. Leonora Gamboa of Murcia.
Meanwhile, P20,000 each were awarded to 24 ZOD–declared barangays for this year, which include Zone 4, Mabini, Pag-ayon, Culo, and Palaka Sur of Pulupandan; Alijis, Central Tabao, Guintorilan, Mabini, and Bagumbayan of Valladolid; Cabia-an and Banga of Candoni; 1 and 4 of Silay City; Gen. Malvar of Pontevedra; Nato of La Castellana;

Brgy. Zone 1 of Murcia; Katilingban of Talisay City; Poblacion 2 of Sagay City; Alicante of E.B. Magalona; Lo-ok of Calatrava; Chambery of Manapla; Cabanbanan of Himamaylan City; and Canturay of Sipalay City.
Cadiz Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr., who is the president of the Negros Association of Chief Executives (ACE), and Provincial Health Officer Girlie Pinongan, and provincial sanitary inspector Marilyn Ostan assisted Lacson during the awarding ceremony.
A barangay is declared ZOD when all households have and consistently use sanitary toilets, and no one practices open defecation in any part of the community, the Capitol said in a press release.
Sanitary inspectors were judged based on their effectiveness in enforcing sanitation standards; success in reducing health risks in the community; thoroughness and consistency in inspections; active participation in public health campaigns; timely reporting; and positive impact on community hygiene and safety. ||
