The Pantawid Pamilya Pilipino Program Operations Office is holding a massive on-the-spot checking of cash cards of 4Ps beneficiaries in the different barangays of Bacolod City amid reports of card pawning.
Roel Gepilga, head of the Grievance Committee of the Pantawid Program Provincial Office, confirmed incidents of card pawning in some barangays of the city.
He added that pawning of 4Ps cash cards is a major violation under the guidelines of the program and a member may be deleted from the list of beneficiaries.
Gepilga said that 24 beneficiaries from Barangay Banago were delisted this year because of the violation they had committed last year. The offenders were found pawning their cash cards despite being warned the first time they committed the offense.
From this week until the end of the month, a massive on-the-spot checking of cash cards will be conducted in the different barangays, he added.
Today, Nov. 23, members of the monitoring team conducted spot checking of the beneficiaries’ cash cards in Barangay Mansilingan.
There are more than 11,000 beneficiaries of the 4Ps in Bacolod. Most of them are in Barangay Banago with more than a thousand members, followed by barangays Handumanan, Felisa, Sum-ag, and Mansilingan.
The 4Ps is a poverty alleviation program of the government that gives social assistance and monetary support to extremely poor families in various regions of the country, and is implemented by the Department of Social Welfare and Development. -MML
