Four persons died when two wing vans figured in a head-on collision along the national highway in Sagwabanwa, near Crossing Tabao in Valladolid town past 12 a.m. today, Nov. 24.

Initial reports indicated the scene of the accident is adjacent to the Valladolid District Hospital.

Valladolid police chief Capt. Wilfredo Benoman identified two of the fatalities as brothers Wendell and Carlo Larios, who were inside the van travelling from south going north.

Wendell, 37, was driving the vehicle while Carlos, 26, was his helper. Both were residents of Mabinay, Negros Oriental, Benoman said.

The driver and helper of the other van with plate number MAH 4613 , who were inside the van traveling in the opposite direction were still unidentified.

Initial police investigation said the van from south veered off the road and crashed on the other vehicle. The impact might have caused the fuel tank of one of the vans to explode, reports said.

Firefighters and rescue groups from the LGU, supported by their counterparts from San Enrique and Pulupandan towns and Bago City had difficulty penetrating the scene as both vehicles were ablaze. The incident also gutted power lines nearby. — NND News Team
