Department of Health 6 regional epidemiologist, Dr. Glen Alonsabe, reported two cases of the DELTA variant of COVID-19 in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City, based on the results released by the Philippine Genome Center August 16.
The new cases brought to four the confirmed DELTA infections in Bacolod.
The third DELTA case is a 3-year-old minor, who was swabbed on July 15. He was asymptomatic, based on his case investigation form (CIF). The fourth one is a 63-year-old female resident, also of Mansilingan. She was swabbed on July 23 and is symptomatic. Her CIF showed that she was fully-vaccinated with Sinovac.
The minor was already released from the mandatory 10-day quarantine, while the female underwent 14-day isolation and had also been cleared.
The first two patients were a 71-year-old resident of Barangay Banago and a 32-year-pregnant from Barangay Sum-ag.
Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia, upon receipt of the report Monday, immediately ordered local containment measures/surgical lockdown of the affected residential areas.
There is no cause for alarm as both patients have already recovered, he added.
Apart from the surgical lockdowns and ongoing contact-tracing measures, the Emergency Operations Center also conducted repeat swabs on the two, including their close contacts.
Contact-tracing of up to the third generation of close contacts is also being implemented.
Leonardia appealed to all Bacolodnons to remain vigilant and continue observing the minimum health protocols. – MML
