The Bacolod Emergency Operations Center is targeting to vaccinate 10,000 Bacolodnons per day in the national vaccination rollout on Nov. 29, 30 and Dec. 1.

EOC deputy director for data analysis, Dr. Chris Sorongon, said that if most of the unvaccinated residents will take part in the activity, the city can also improve its vaccination output to 75 percent.

The city targets to inoculate more than 424,000 residents against the coronavirus.

Sorongon said 70 percent of the targeted Bacolodnons have received the first dose, while 50 percent had been fully vaccinated.

He added that the Bacolod EOC was recognized by the Department of Health for having the most number of minors inoculated during the first day of the pediatric vaccination rollout.

He admitted that the number of vaccine seekers in malls has declined so the new approach was to go to barangays and puroks.

About six to eight thousand Bacolodnons were being vaccinated each day. Sorongon, who led the vaccination team that went to Barangay 4 Monday, said they were able to administer the first dose to more than 100 residents there.

He added that they also discovered that even those residing in the urban barangays are not yet vaccinated and they just need to hear the benefits of vaccination for them to get the shots.

Sorongon said most of those who died of COVID complications were unvaccinated, and this is one effective reason to convince those still hesitant to get protected against the coronavirus.

He added that of the more than 20 isolation facilities managed by the city, only two have remained open and accommodate pregnant women and the remaining positive patients. — MML
