Police arrested three men in Victorias City Sept. 12, after they allegedly dug up and cut underground streetlight copper wires in Barangay Damgo, E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental.
The E.B. Magalona Municipal Police Station said the suspects are all married, and reside in Hacienda Mercedes, Barangay Pasil in the town.
A witness reported seeing the three suspects digging in the ground to cut the electrical wire belonging to the local government’s streetlighting system.
After cutting the wires, the suspects loaded the stolen items onto a tricycle, and fled toward neighboring Victorias City, the police reported.
After the chairman of Barangay Damgo notified the E.B. Magalona Police at around 4 p.m., an alert team was immediately dispatched to investigate and track down the suspects.
A follow-up investigation led responding officers to Constantino Junkshop in Canetown, Barangay XIX, Victorias City, where the owner voluntarily turned over about 3.5 kilograms of copper wires, valued at around P2,500, which had been sold by the suspects earlier that afternoon.
The police also arrested all three suspects in Barangay XIII, Victorias, and are now in the custody of the E.B. Magalona MPS for proper disposition and the filing of appropriate criminal charges against them. | TMD
