26 houses in Bacolod destroyed by fire

Twenty-six families were left homeless by a fire that hit Purok Tahong in Barangay 2, Bacolod City early Friday morning (Dec. 19).

Fire Officer 2 Rolin Paulan, chief investigator of Bacolod City Fire Station, said the fire started at the house of Marcelino Pitogo, which is being rented by a certain Gerald Nessia, based on the initial investigation.

An unattended lighted candle was suspected to have been among those that triggered the fire.

The fire affected 35 individuals, with damage estimated at P125,000, according to the Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP).

The basic needs of the fire victims are being addressed by the City Social Welfare and Development Office.

A day before the incident, a fire also hit four houses at Purok Magsungay in Barangay Singcang-Airport.

A minor suffered second degree burns, the BFP report said.

The BFP estimated the damage among the houses at P270,000. | GB
