Opening of classes cancelled in Neg. Occ. amid flooding

orrential rains induced by Typhoon Goring caused flooding in several towns and cities of Negros Occidental, affecting thousands of Negrenses, which also led to the cancellation of work and classes in some local government units.
Provincial Administrator, Atty. Rayfrando Diaz, said that about 3,838 Negrenses were affected by flooding that started Sunday night, Aug. 27, in the towns of Pontevedra, Don Salvador Benedicto, San Enrique, Pulupandan, Valladolid, and Murcia, and in Bago City.

Minimal effect on sugar supply, says SRA head on VMC fire

Sugar Regulatory Administration head Pablo Luis Azcona said today, Aug. 28, that the fire incident at the Victorias Milling Company (VMC) had a minimal effect on the supply of sugar.
The fire at the raw sugar warehouse of VMC Sunday night, took place as the company is about to start its milling operations on Sept. 1.

P0.40/L hike in diesel prices likely this week

The eighth consecutive week of price increases for diesel and kerosene, and the seventh for gasoline, will take effect tomorrow, Aug. 29.
Oil companies said diesel will increase by P0.40 to P0.60 per liter, gasoline by P0.10 to P0.20/L, and kerosene by P0.40 to P0.85/L.

Coastal waters of Neg. Occ. free from red tide

The coastal waters of Bacolod, E.B. Magalona, Talisay, Silay, Hinigaran, and Victorias City in Negros Occidental remain free of the toxic red tide, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources said Saturday, Aug. 26.

In an advisory, BFAR Region 6 director Remia Aparri said that shellfish from the coastal waters of Panay, Pilar, President Roxas, Ivisan, Sapian, and Roxas City in Capiz; Gigantes Island and Carles in Iloilo; and Altavas, Batan, and New Washington in Aklan were found unsafe for human consumption.
