Understanding global warming

Prior to publication of geochemist Wallace Broecker’s paper, “Climatic Change: Are We on the Brink of Pronounced Global Warming?” in 1975, scientists already knew that use of fossil fuels was causing increased emission of CO2 which was causing a warming of the Earth’s surface temperature and a consequent warming of surface waters, but industrial emissions might cause cooling, and they didn’t know which direction the dominant change might be. Broecker’s paper changed that and it also marked the first public use of the term “global warming”.

15,000 evacuated in southern Negros

July 26, 2023

More than 15,000 individuals either evacuated or sought shelter Tuesday, July 25, due to torrential rains experienced all over Negros Occidental, including Bacolod City, brought by enhanced southwest monsoon due to Super Typhoon “Egay”.
The Provincial Disaster Management Program Division (PDMPD) reported that the local government units of Pontevedra, San Enrique, Hinoba-an, Valladolid, Bago, and Sipalay were affected.

NGCP vows to complete 2 interconnection projects

July 26, 2023

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines said it will expedite the completion of the Cebu-Negros-Panay (CNP) project that is now on Stage 3, as well as that of the Mindanao-Visayas Interconnection Project (MVIP).
Both crucial projects have been partially energized, with the MVIP on track to be fully energized to 450 megawatts this third quarter, the NGCP said in a statement, in response to the call of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Monday that it “completes all of its deliverables”.

No classes, gov’t work today in Bacolod, EB Magalona

Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Benitez extended the cancellation of classes in all levels as well as work in city government offices until today, July 26, due to Super Typhoon Egay.
EB Magalona Mayor Marvin Malacon also announced that work in government offices, including national government agencies, in the municipality is still suspended due to continued heavy rains and strong winds brought by “Egay”.

Low-income electricity users urged to seek rate discounts

July 26, 2023

Electricity consumers in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental availing of power rate discounts are reminded to update their records and apply anew for the government’s lifeline or subsidized program.
The Department of Energy said that starting next month, electricity consumers nationwide who are in the list of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development, but who have not registered with their electric cooperatives or distribution utilities (DUs), will no longer receive rate discounts.
