Two hundred two students from Negros Occidental qualified in this year’s Science and Technology (S&T) undergraduate scholarships of the Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI).
Of the qualifiers, 116 passed the RA 7687 Scholarship Program dedicated to assisting academically-talented students from economically-disadvantaged backgrounds, while 86 qualified for the Merit Scholarship Program that is given to students with high aptitude in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, the DOST6 said.
In Western Visayas, there were 600 qualifiers, 318 of them for RA 7687 Scholarship Program, and the rest under the Merit grant.
Aside from Negros Occidental, Iloilo has 263 qualifiers, Aklan – 49, Capiz – 40, Antique – 32, and Guimaras with 14.
There are a total of 10,756 qualifiers out of the 89,510 examinees nationwide.
Qualifiers shall enjoy P40,000 a year of tuition and other school fees for scholars enrolled in private colleges and universities, P10,000 a year of learning materials and/or connectivity allowance, P8,000 monthly living allowance, P10,000 thesis allowance, P1,000 in clothing allowance, P1,000 graduation allowance, transportation allowance, and premium insurance, the DOST6 said.
The notice of award, lacking documents, and schedule of orientation will be sent to the qualifiers’ email address, it added. The names of the qualifiers and information about the DOST-SEI programs and projects can be accessed via https://sei.dost.gov.ph. | CGC
