2 NPA members surrender

Two more alleged New People’s Army members in central Negros surrendered to the 62nd Infantry Battalion and local police in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, a report from the Philippine Army said.

Lt. Col. Melvin Flores, 62nd Infantry Battalion commander, identified the two NPA personalities as Ka Jomar, a member of the Sentro De Grabidad Platoon, Central Negros 1, Komiteng Rehiyonal-Negros/Cebu/Bohol/Siquijor, and alias Mari, who chairs the Kaugmaon-Guihulngan City chapter.

Their identities are being withheld for security reasons, Flores said.

He said that the two NPA personalities revealed of “unbearable hardships and hunger while obeying orders to spread propaganda against the government and conducting atrocities against their fellow Negrenses.”

Last week, a pregnant NPA teener-member also surrendered to the 94th Infantry Battalion in Bindoy, Negros Oriental.

Col. Inocencio Pasaporte, commander of the 303rd Infantry Brigade, lauded the decision of the rebel personalities to abandon the armed struggle return to the folds of the government.

In his recent visit to the 94IB headquarters in Ayungon, Negros Oriental,  Maj. Gen. Eric Vinoya, 3rd Infantry Division commander, also honored and conferred four 94IB soldiers with Military Merit Medal, in recognition of their exemplary performance in several encounters with the NPA. GPB
