Two persons died after their motorcycle collided with a carabao along J. Pitong Road in Hacienda Santo Rosario, Silay City, Negros Occidental early morning of Aug. 23.

The motorcycle driven by “Edrian”, 19, with rider “Janjan”, was traveling from the Bacolod-Silay Airport toward Barangay Guimbalaon when it hit the animal standing on a dark portion of the highway.

Both victims sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital, where Edrian was declared dead on arrival, while Janjan succumbed while receiving treatment.

Police investigations revealed that the carabao, which was also wounded during the accident, is owned by a certain “Noli” and had strayed from Hacienda Gina, also in the barangay.

A follow-up investigation is ongoing regarding the presence of the unattended animal on a public thoroughfare.

In Escalante, a 77-year-old man carrying firewood died after he was struck by a motorcycle while crossing the road along Crossing Yolanda in Barangay Old Poblacion, at about 5:50 p.m. Aug. 23.
