2 ash emission events logged at Mt. Kanlaon

The Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island, which is currently under Alert Level 3 indicating high level of volcanic unrest, has continued emitting ash and is still being rocked by several earthquakes.

In an advisory, the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council reported two ash emission events at 12:55 p.m. and 3:52 p.m. on Monday (March 17).

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) also reported  eight volcanic quakes at Kanlaon Volcano, which released 2,905 tonnes of sulfur dioxide flux on March 16, with 200-meter tall plume that drifted southwest noted.

Its edifice also remained inflated.

Phivolcs warned of potential hazards, including sudden explosive eruptions, lava flow or effusion, ashfall, pyroclastic density currents, rockfall, and lahars during heavy rainfall.

Kanlaon Volcano erupted explosively on Dec. 9, leading Phivolcs to raise the Alert Level from 2 to 3. | GB
