The first phase of the Bacolod tree park masterplan has started, with the blessing and groundbreaking ceremony Sept. 4 in the 8.7-hectare city property in Barangay Alangilan.
Mayor Alfredo Benitez said the initial phase, worth P47-million, will include land development, such as the entrance to the picnic and glamping area.
The initial budget will come from the P4.4-billion loan of the city government with the Development Bank of the Philippines.
He said that estimated budget for the whole master development plan is around P500 million.
“Ara pa lang ta sa 10 percent sang aton plano.”
The mayor said he will seek assistance from the Department of Tourism to help fund the project that is being eyed as another tourist destination in Bacolod, especially for those who want to enjoy the outdoors and commune with nature.
He noted that the site is one of the remaining areas in the city with lots of trees and cool climate.
Benitez earlier said his administration “will work towards creating a beautiful and environmentally-conscious space for every Bacolodnon to enjoy.”
The Design and Build project will have five phases.
In the project presentation of Almana Construction and Development Corp., the tree park will feature amenities and facilities like a walk trail, sensory garden, a playground, tree museum, skywalk, camping area, mobile camping, picnic groves, lagoon, view deck, cottages, a gazebo, common toilets, a multipurpose hall, and glamping area.
Benitez said he talked to Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran and some councilors at the groundbreaking, for the creation of an economic enterprise office that would manage the facility, as there will be charges and fees to be collected from those visiting the site.
But it will be affordable, just enough for its maintenance, he assured. | CGC
