Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo showed support to this year’s first batch of 27 farm trainees, who were accepted by Dumaguete’s sister city of Yeongdong in South Korea, before they departed for Cebu City early morning March 4.
Now in its fourth year, the seasonal farm training program, as per the sister city agreement between Dumaguete and Yeongdong, offers opportunity for local residents to be continually trained so they can acquire the skills and learn agricultural technology in South Korea.
This includes training on the cultivation of fruit farms that can be applied to augment their livelihood and better job opportunities upon their return to the Philippines, the city said.

All the available slots for this year’s seasonal farm training program were already filled up, based on the recommendation and acceptance of the Yeongdong-gun government after examining the applications and track record of performance of the applicants.
Another of batch of farm trainees, who completed all the requirements and preliminary training, will also leave in the coming weeks, based on the approved dates of travel to South Korea.
Both Yeongdong and Dumaguete will endeavor to expand the program in the coming years to ensure that more farm trainees will be sent to South Korea to learn and master the nation’s agricultural technology that will boost their skills set in farming. ||
