Sixteen classrooms, worth P52.5 million, will be constructed at Progreso Village National High School in Barangay Vista Alegre, Bacolod City.
Mayor Greg Gasataya said July 30 that this national government project was formalized through the memorandum of agreement signed July 29 with Education Secretary Juan Edgardo Angara.
“I already turned over the documents to the CEO (City Engineer’s Office) for the implementation of the 16 new classrooms in Abada Escay,” Gasataya said in a press conference yesterday.
Due to the limited space, many Grade 10 graduates of Progreso Village NHS have been forced to enroll in senior high schools in neighboring barangays, leading to increased transportation expenses, higher absenteeism, and rising dropout rates.
Principal Lemuel Mendoza said the new classrooms will expand the capacity of the school to accommodate 350 to 500 additional senior high school learners.
Progreso Village NHS only has 12 classrooms, and currently serves more than 1,000 learners, the city said in a press release.
Gasataya, meanwhile, thanked the DepEd and the national government for partnering with the city to accelerate the construction of additional school facilities. “We truly appreciate the efforts of the national government, which are aligned with the President’s priority of empowering local government units and strengthening the country’s education sector.” | TMD
