The proposed 150-megawatt wind power plant project of Thailand-based Sermsang Power Corp. is seen to drive Bago City’s economic growth.

In a statement July 2, Mayor Marina Javellana-Yao assured the project proponent of the full support of the city government, and expressed her optimism in bringing in more investors in Bago City during her first term in office.

“The future really looks so bright for Bago. Let us make it easier for them (investors). Our City Investment and Incentive Code is underway. Investments will generate more jobs and boost economic opportunities for the Bagonhons,” she said.

In a video interview posted on the Bago City website July 2, Sermsang Power chief operating officer Passakorn Panyaratanakorn said they have seen the opportunity for investment in Bago.

“We see the option that we can do some investments in Bago City. We see the potential of the wind farm, windmill to be installed here. This is going to be our very first project in the Philippines,” he said. “We need a lot of support from the local people and the authorities.”

The final site of the proposed wind power plant project has not been disclosed yet, but Sermsang Power Corp. has set the target date of commercial operation by the end of 2026.

“We are about to start. The real construction, after this, (will be) in the fourth quarter this year. We need around one-and-a-half years to complete everything. It will be 150 megawatts with 23 turbines,” Panyaratanakorn said.

In November last year, Sermsang Power Corp. chief financial officer Chayut Leehacharoenkul sent an information memorandum to the Stock Exchange of Thailand on its acquisition of the assets of Bago Negros Energy Corp. “with an installed capacity of 150 MW at a total investment value amounting to USD250 million,” a copy of the document posted on the power firm’s website showed.

“The management department of the company has conducted feasibility studies and detailed examination of the project and thus, decided to invest in the project accordingly,” it said. | PNA
