While dengue cases in Negros Occidental is on a downward trend, a total of 13 deaths were recorded by the Provincial Health Office (PHO) from Jan. 1 to Dec. 27 last year.
In the same period, the PHO logged 5,349 dengue cases compared to 7,250 cases recorded in 2024.
This indicates a reduction of 1,901 cases, which is equivalent to 26.22 percent.
Age-group with the most number of dengue cases were one to 10 years old.
All the 31 local government units in Negros Occidental were not spared by dengue, according to the PHO report.
Bago City topped the 10 LGUs having the most number of dengue cases, with 1,140.
It is followed by La Carlota City – 479, Kabankalan City – 478, San Carlos City – 295, Isabela – 257, Silay City – 254, Cauayan – 198, Hinigaran – 165, La Castellana – 156, and Himamaylan City – 151.
Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral infection causing flu-like symptoms such as high fever, severe headache (especially behind the eyes), joint/muscle pain, nausea, and a rash. | GB
