Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson has advised the public to take precautionary measures against the increasing cases of typhoid fever in Negros Occidental.
Lacson, in his advisory to all city and municipal health offices in the province, reported a 100 percent increase in typhoid fever as of Jan. 18, or 40 cases more compared to 40 cases in the same period last year.

Typhoid fever is an infectious disease, which is also known as enteric fever, or just typhoid.
It spreads through contaminated food and water or through close contact with someone, who is infected.
Its signs and symptoms are sustained high fever, headache, weakness, loss of appetite, diarrhea or constipation, and abdominal discomfort.
Lacson called on the public to avoid drinking untreated water, cook food well, avoid eating unsanitary street-vended foods, wash hands with soap and water after using the toilet and keep the surroundings clean.
He also ordered the city and municipal health offices to activate food handlers class for vendors and food establishments. | GB
