Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo commended Dumaguete City’s Top 10 Outstanding Women in Agriculture this year, who were recognized during the culmination program of the National Rural Women’s Day at the Manuel L. Quezon Park recently.
The winners are Mary Ann Gutang, Melody Babor, Dionel Deles, and Manilyn Realista, all of Barangay Candau-ay; Margie Cataylo, Barangay Bajumpandan; Dulcevida Cordura, Mirasol Timosan, and Anacleta Alvarico of Barangay Banilad; Placida Baligasa, Barangay Cantil-e; and Lourdes Cariño of Barangay Talay.
Organized by the City Agriculturist Office, led by officer-in-charge Dwight Oliver Arnaiz, with GAD focal person Aveangel Alcorin, the daylong celebration also featured lectures on women nutrition and reproductive health, a vegetable salad cooking contest, beauty services for women farmers, and a mini-market that displayed freshly-harvested fruits and vegetables.
Members of 4H Federation Dumaguete and the Gulayan sa Bagacay Urban Farmers Association performed intermission numbers during the program, the city said, adding that this year’s celebration of the National Rural Women’s Day focused on the theme “Rooted in Strength: Celebrating Women’s Leadership in Agriculture”. ||
